Adam West, The Original TV Batman, Has Passed Away At Age 88

Adam West

As the years pass, the world continues to lose more and more iconic actors and actresses. Unfortunately for many comic book and television fans, today is one of those mournful days. Adam West, who played the Dark Knight in the original 1960’s Batman TV series, has passed away. Aged eighty-eight, West lost his short battle with Leukemia in Los Angeles on Friday night, surrounded by his loving family. West is survived by his wife Marcelle Lear, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

For six decades, Adam West made appearances throughout both television and movies. He began his film career in 1959 with smaller roles, but didn’t truly break into fame until he began his run in the Batman television series. Along with Burt Ward as Robin, West claimed his iconic role for a total of three seasons. In 1966, the two actors even expanded their roles to include Batman: The Movie.

Over the years, West was featured in over fifty television shows and movies. Up until his passing, he even claimed the role of fictional character Adam West, the mayor of Quahog in Family Guy.

Though no matter how many different roles West played, he was and always will be a favorite among many Americans. His talent was endless and he will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Adam West.

While we mourn this incredible loss, please check out our coverage of this year’s panel at Dallas Fan Expo, featuring both West and Ward.
